“The overwhelming support for impeachment shows that the American people are not ready to accept King Trump,” said Free Speech for People campaign director Alexandra Flores-Quilty.

The nonprofit Free Speech for People is leading a new nonpartisan campaign to garner support for removing U.S. President Donald Trump — “Impeach Trump Again” — and reported on Thursday that the effort has already garnered more than 100,000 petition signatures.

The campaign is calling on Congress to launch an impeachment inquiry against Trump and says the number of signatures indicates “broad support” for the investigation.

“The overwhelming support for impeachment shows that the American public is not ready to accept King Trump,” Free Speech for People campaign director Alexandra Flores-Quilty said in a statement Thursday. “We need courageous leaders in Congress to stand up and hold Trump accountable for his abuse of power and launch an impeachment inquiry.”

The petition, launched on Inauguration Day, calls on Congress to launch an impeachment inquiry into Trump based on possible violations of the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution, pardon insurrectionists who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol, and his “illegal” and “corrupt” campaign practices.

Free Speech for People also launched a campaign to garner public support for Trump’s impeachment on his inauguration day in 2017.

According to the watchdog group Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, the remuneration clauses require Trump to “fully divest himself from any business that receives a benefit, advantage or benefit from the federal government or individual states beyond his official compensation.” Trump’s business empire — as far as the public knows, he has not divested himself — now includes not just real estate, but a social media platform and a cryptocurrency token.

The campaign also lists other alleged impeachable offenses.

Trump was impeached twice by the House of Representatives during his first term, but was acquitted by the Senate on both counts. Both houses of Congress are now controlled by Trump’s Republican Party.
